“After attending your workshops it made it easier to comprehend my role as a manager. My thoughts on being a manager is that I am the person that supports the team, motivates them to push through their work and reach for a coming goal and also the person that keeps the salon moving. The biggest issue I had was being able to balance my approach with the stylist I want to be – firm but supported but not be to hard or to soft. After the workshop I realize that my job is to direct them, to lay out what is expected, and to show them how to do it and then follow up with them. After all that is done the responsibility is in the stylist to work towards the common goal. My relationship with the stylists is better. I’ve laid out what’s expected of them and always show them how close their goal can be. I’ve learned how to break down the goals and try to make it more attainable.”

Hello Kimberly, I am so glad that we got to speak this morning before going on your trip this week. So happy that you were able to look over the Scoreboards from last week and saw the improvements. I finished watching the management session 1 last evening and I just registered for the second session. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the first web conference and learning new tips. It was great to learn about more functions of management and brush up on some of the more technical areas such as Scoreboards. The main parts of the conference that I learned were the 5 roles of manager- objective, entrepreneur, managerial, technical and standards. Also, it was interesting to learn more about internal systems and what that really means for everyday operations of a business. What made it more interesting were your examples and stories…some of which are all too familiar!!! I think the key principle I took away from this class were knowing and having clearly defined roles and open communication; two things I think that are essential to the flow of running a business. I also like how you touched on some other issues such as responsibilities, professionalism, and managing systems rather than people. Thank you so much for extending the invitation to learn more about managing so that I can do my job better. I will watch the second session sometime this week!
